Psychology and Practicum Experience:
Masters Level Internship/Predoctoral Practicum
CAPS provides clinical experience and training for students who are in Masters or Doctoral Programs in Psychology or related fields*. The program is designed to help intern/practicum students increase their competence as therapists in a student counseling setting, as well as to expose them to a variety of other clinical and campus activities.
Activities of these students include:
• Intensive supervised experience in therapy with individuals and couples
• Conducting clinical assessments
• Providing psychoeducational workshops to members of the SU community
• Providing consultations and crisis intervention services for university students, staff and faculty
• Attending and participating in didactic and experiential topical trainings
• Participation in case presentations and consultations.
A student applying for an internship or practicum placement must make a ten month 20 hour per week commitment.
*This training program is NOT designed to meet requirements for a traditional pre-doctoral internship.
Qualifications
Applicants should be eligible for their masters level internship,
pre-doctoral therapy practicum, or half time pre-doctoral internship. Academic
programs may include psychology, counseling, counselor preparation, or social
work.
