PSYCHOLOGICAL EMERGENCIES
CAPS provides
crisis intervention and/or referral to emergency resources for all
Seattle University students. Referrals to alternative emergency
resources, ie. Public Safety, the community crisis line or near-by
hospital emergency services may be provided when necessary.
In the rare event that you may encounter emergency situations, having the following information may be helpful during critical moments. There are times when a student is in
acute distress and needs to be seen immediately. If it is within our skills and availability to do so, we will. However, CAPS is an outpatient service with limited staff and may not be able to provide what you and the student need at the moment. Fortunately, our campus is located near several community resources for responding to emergencies.
Calls can be made to the King County Crisis Line at 206-461-3222 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Crisis Line has listings of every service available in Seattle/King County and can make next day emergency appointments at mental health centers. The Crisis Line can also contact the King County Designated Mental Health Professionals who will come to the student to evaluate him or her for emergency involuntary hospitalization.
Harborview and Providence Hospitals have emergency rooms and are within walking distance of campus. All hospital emergency rooms have available psychiatric consultation. A student can go to any hospital emergency room and request a psychiatric consultation.
