Seattle University requires that all full-time undergraduate students have health insurance. Coverage beginning in fall quarter is for a full calendar year, September 1 through August 31. Coverage in subsequent quarters is prorated for the remainder of that same calendar year.
The health insurance fee is billed annually in the fall quarter or the first quarter of the academic year for which the student is registered full-time. Students who are able to provide evidence that they have comparable coverage in Washington State, may request a waiver of the fee through SUOnline by completing the Insurance Waiver Online Form. The deadline for submitting a waiver request is the last day of the add/drop period of the student's first quarter of full-time enrollment. Waiver requests received after this deadline will not be considered.
A waiver request must be submitted for each year the student has health insurance that meets the university's minimum criteria. Full-time students who have waived the university's insurance may subsequently purchase the insurance at any time; however, coverage is not retroactive.
Part-time or graduate domestic students may purchase health insurance by going to Wells Fargo Student Insurance.
International students are required to purchase student health insurance and should contact the International Student and Scholar Center for information regarding cost and coverage levels.
Questions about the university's health insurance policy, availability and requirements should be directed to the Student Health Center.
