Born in Portland, Maine. Moved to Seattle, Washington at age 11. Attended Garfield High School. Graduated from University of Washington with Bachelor of Arts (1974), Graduated from Bangor Theological Seminary in 1984 with Master of Divinity. Served local United Church of Christ churches as Pastor and Teacher in Maine and New Hampshire. Graduated from Andover Newton Theological School in 1998 with a Doctor of Ministry degree (Thesis on "Men's Ministry in the United Church of Christ: Past, Present, and Future"). Served a United Church of Christ congregation in Bellevue, Washington. Began teaching the MTI class at Seattle University's School of Theology and Ministry in 2002. Married to the Rev. Jennifer Russell (retired) for 42 years; three daughters, eight grandchildren.
