Ethics in the News

"America’s love affair with guns, and the profound legal and ethical issues surrounding a common sense approach to managing the role we want fire arms to have in our culture, has been a societal preoccupation for many years in the United States.  With the murder of so many innocent children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, many Americans have awakened to the moral implications of this complex situation and have come to realize that this is an ethical issue of great urgency.  A host of religious traditions are issuing statements and doing what they can to nudge American society to finally deal with guns in a way that makes sense.  Many of the Christian communities of faith in partnership with Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry have issued statements, and local religious leaders have gathered together to try to engage the media around this issue.

The School's faculty are among those actively engaging this issue, as a part of their active work in the local, national and global community surrounding relevant issues.
