Job Description:
The Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry invites applicants for an anticipated tenure-track assistant professor position in Hebrew Bible, with an expected start date of fall 2010. Primary teaching responsibilities will include the foundational course “Hebrew Scriptures,” advanced courses in Pentateuch, Prophets, and Writings, as well as special topic offerings. We are interested in applicants with thorough grounding in both historical-critical methods and contemporary textual hermeneutics, including liberation, cultural, and ecological interpretations. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can make contributions to the School’s new initiatives in interfaith conversation, and a new degree program focusing on the spirituality of leadership for students wishing to work in nonecclesial positions.
Job Requirements:
Competitive candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies and demonstrate scholarly interest and expertise in ecumenism, interreligious dialogue, social justice or sustainability, as well as have evidence of teaching excellence. Competitive candidates will also be deeply aware of the Catholic landscape.
