“The Lottery” Film Screening and Panel Discussion
Wednesday, Feb. 20. 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Wyckoff Auditorium

In the 2012 general election, Washington voters passed Initiative 1240, allowing nonreligious, nonprofit organizations to open and operate up to 40 charter schools over the next five years. With the passage of Initiative 1240, Washington became the 42nd state to allow charter schools. Public education can feel deficient for some parents, teachers and students; “The Lottery” presents an argument for why charter schools might be a sufficient alternative to public schools in offering hope for a better education. In light of the recent Initiative, the Center for Service and Community Engagement’s K-12 Leadership Team would like show “The Lottery” to encourage productive dialogue around the issue of charter schools, particularly in the Seattle area. Our selected panelists include members of the community with differing perspectives on the issue. Join us for an evening of discussion and critical thinking. For more information, visit Facebook or contact Emily Wolfkiel at wolfkiel@seattleu.edu.
