Management of Space and Facilities Needs
Space on the Seattle University campus is a limited asset and must be utilized in the way that best supports the mission and strategic priorities of the university. All space belongs to the university and the allocation of space is ultimately the responsibility of the Executive Team. The allocation of space to a department or division does not imply a permanent commitment. It can be revised in consideration of both divisional needs and overall university resources and priorities. Allocation of new space, or reallocation of existing space, must be done through a process that is timely, consistent, criteria-based and consultative.
Some needs are self-identified by divisions through space and capital requests. Typical requests are intended to address current needs and near-term growth. Cross-divisional and long-term needs stemming from growth are identified by University Planning in consultation with senior leadership. Typical needs include classrooms, faculty offices, residence halls, etc. All needs are informed by analysis provided by University Planning and other groups.
University Planning works in close conjunction with Finance and Business Affairs and the Space and Capital Project Advisory Group to develop plans for space allocations and capital improvements. Capital funding is available annually primarily to meet operational needs; large or long-term needs more often be met by large capital projects.
