The 3rd Annual Health Professions Graduate School Fair is coming up on May 14, 2013. Click here for more information

Welcome to the Pre-Health Advising at Seattle University! Pre-health advising is available to any Seattle University student who is interested in studying health professions as well as prospective and current  Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Professional Health Certificate Program students. If you are interested in a career in the health professions, we hope the following information will be useful to you. Be sure to check back often as the materials will be updated regularly.

Many thanks to Dr. Margaret Hudson for the development of many of these pre-professional/pre-health materials as well as her ongoing support!

What does it mean to be a “pre-health” student?

Pre-health is not a specific major or a profession. As a “pre-health” student you can explore a number of options in the health care industry including medicine, optometry, veterinary, physical therapy, physician assistant and dentistry, among many others. You may also want to explore areas like health policy, health education and public health. Please note: if you are interested in nursing or diagnostic ultrasound, you should consult those programs directly for advising and resources.

A pre-health student can be any major on campus and is not limited to programs of study in the College of Science and Engineering . Many health professions require extensive undergraduate coursework in biology, chemistry, physics and math. As a pre-health student you will need to work closely with your major advisor as well as the pre-health advisor to ensure that you are following the appropriate steps and coursework best aligned with your intended profession.

Just like other students around campus, pre-health students are diverse in interests, strengths, skills and experiences. Please use these resources as you continue to explore your professional, academic and personal options.

Pre-Health Club: Network with other pre-health students around campus! The club hosts socials, speakers and other professional development opportunities.
