Facilities
The facilities utilized by our students include university-wide classrooms, library, general-purpose computer labs, engineering computer labs, student design rooms, and both instructional and research labs. Mechanical engineering students participating in project development for classroom assignments, laboratories, senior design, or various student club activities also have supervised-use privilege in our well-equipped Machine Shop after receiving training.
Mechanical Engineering Laboratory and Shop
The department maintains five well-equipped instructional laboratories and a machine shop, all of which are housed in the Engineering building (ENGR). They are:
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Lab
- Instrumentation Lab
- Dynamic Systems Lab
- Thermal Systems Lab
- Materials Science Lab
- Machine Shop
Instrumentation Lab:
A. Eastman '07 and B. Langhans '07 designed and built a ping pong ball launcher that attacks intruders when their presence is detected by a motion sensor. This is one of the final projects for
MEGR 304 Data Acquisition and Instrumentation.
