Engineers Without Borders (EWB) at Seattle University is one of the most active engineering clubs on campus. The club holds large-scale events to raise money, plans and coordinates engineering projects both locally and oversea, and travels abroad to implement sustainable engineering solutions involving infrastructure improvement and basic life necessities such as water purification in communities that are often remote, marginalizes, and impoverished. The club is advised by Professor Thompson, chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
In the past, SU-EWB have completed a student dormitory project in Mae Nam Kuhn (near Chiang Mai), Thailand (some pictures from that effort are shown), provided water purification for the same community. It also provided clean water locally at Curtis (near Chehalis), Washington after severe flooding in the area. It has also completed (and/or planning) projects in Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Zambia. Students interested in EWB are strongly encouraged to participate.
Department is actively recruiting for a full-time instructor to start September 2013. See official job posting.
