Senior Synthesis ISSC 489-490

Overall Objectives:

  1. Fulfill senior synthesis graduation requirement 
  2. Appreciate the investigative work of other General Science students 
  3. Create a sense of community in General Science 
  4. Promote skills involved in reading and writing scientifically

ISSC 489 Objectives: (Winter)

  1. Teach skills needed to support senior synthesis project, specifically computer assisted literature searching and scientific writing. 
  2. Provide opportunities for student selection of a topic 
  3. Facilitate student preparation of an annotated bibliography 
  4. Read and learn about chosen topic (progress reports) 
  5. Prepare outline of paper 
  6. Prepare rough draft of paper 
  7. Consider the relationships between Core courses and science

ISSC 490 Objectives: (Spring)

  1. Orally present topic 
  2. Refine the draft of the paper in response to adviser comments 
  3. Learn what other general science students have been up to through seminar 
  4. Submit the paper in its final form

Plan ahead. You should be thinking and starting by your junior year. See your advisor for requirements.
