Frequently Asked Questions
Who must see an advisor?
- If you have an advising hold, it must be lifted before you can register.
Who has advising holds?
- During most quarters, General Science places holds on all freshmen pre-science, incoming students, students on probation and Seniors.
Can I see an advisor if I don't have a hold?
- Absolutely, just set up a time.
Can I plan more than one quarter of schedules at a time?
- Absolutely. A template including your science requirements is particularly helpful. Remember that if you get off track you may need to consult an advisor to get the necessary classes in sequence.
What courses fulfill the "interdisciplinary science" requirement?
- The interdisciplinary science course offerings vary each quarter and each year. The best way to find out what courses are being offered is to do a keyword search on SUOnline. On the "search for classes" page, select the appropriate quarter at the top of the page, and then skip down to the bottom of the page, where you can select "CORE-INT" from the "Course Comment Keywords" drop-down box. This will bring up a list of ALL core-interdisciplinary courses offered across the university. Scan through these, looking specifically at the science courses. WARNING: Only courses offered by the College of Science and Engineering fufill the interdisciplinary SCIENCE requirement. The course prefix must be: BIOL, CHEM, CEEGR, CSSE, DIUS, ECEGR, ISSC, MATH, MEGR, or PHYS. Recent interdisciplinary science courses offered include: BIOL 491 - Sustainability and Reality; CHEM 480 - Forensic Science; CSSE 391 - Cyber Security; CSSE 481 - The Art of Web Design; ISSC 480 - The Human Response to Science and Engineering; ISSC 482 - Global Climate Change; PHYS 481 - Origins: Cosmology and Culture.
