Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance

Seattle University's Department of Computer Science/Software Engineering is a member of the Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA). This membership subscription permits the college to make Microsoft products available to students who are currently enrolled in computer technology and information systems courses. As such, students enrolled in Electrical & Computer Engineering courses are eligible to download software subject to the MSDNAA licensing terms.

All registered Electrical & Computer Engineering students are members. MSDNAA automatically sends new students a password. Look for an email in the fall titled "Seattle University - CS ELMS for MSDNAA Software Center:"  Your MSDNAA login Username is your whole email address ("johnsmith@seattleu.edu") .

If you lost or did not receive your password go to MSDNAA Software Center Login page and select the "I've forgotten my password" box to have a password sent to you. Be sure to check that your MSDNAA email containing your password is not lost in your Junk Mail folder.

If you were not registered in the fall and need a login please contact Gary Fernandes at fernandg@seattleu.edu.

Software is available in these formats:

  • Discounted Purchase: You are able to purchase the fully-licensed retail software for popular products such as Windows Vista, Visual Studio .NET, Visio and Project, and more at a highly discounted rate (approximately $5 to $10, plus shipping). This software will be mailed to your home and is yours to keep.
  • Free Download: You may download a free limited-license (but fully functional) copy of the software from our web servers. The limited license allows you to download ONE copy to ONE personal computer. You may keep the software on your computer indefinitely, but it is licensed only for personal and educational use. You cannot use it for commercial purposes, and you will not be able to reinstall it later.
Please note that the software is often quite large (hundreds of MB), so we recommend this only for users with a high-speed broadband Internet connection.

Virtual Private NetworkOff Campus or Wireless Download Note: In order to download MSDNAA software from "off campus" or wirelessly, students need to connect to the Seattle Domain Network by Virtual Private Network (VPN). After installation and setup of VPN you can go to the MSDNAA Software Center to begin downloading your Microsoft software.

Follow each line of instruction carefully.
