Digital Design Facility
Cadence University Program Member

The department is pleased to participate in the university support program of Cadence Design Systems. Our degree programs are designed to provide students with hands-on skills and the knowledge required to be proficient with modern circuit design and analysis software tools.
To prepare our students we incorporate the use of Cadence products such as, PSpice, OrCAD, and Allegro Design Entry CIS Capture and Layout software tools in our curriculum.

Our VHDL elective classes uses the VHDL desktop and simulator.

Advanced Digital Design also uses these tools as well as FormalCheck model checker and the BuildGates synthesis tool. The Capture schematic entry and PCB design tools (OrCAD) also come into play.

Microprocessor Design uses Capture schematic entry and HDL design tools.
The Wireless Communication elective is developing new projects for the Wireless System-Level Verification tools.

The introductory Digital Operations class finds the VHDL tools useful and both the Circuits and Electronics sequences make use of PSpice. They also make some use of the schematic entry tool in the OrCAD suite.

Demo Versions are also available for home use:

The OrCAD 16.x Demo software includes demo versions of the following tools:PSpice® A/D, PSpice AA, OrCAD Capture, OrCAD Capture CIS Option, OrCAD PCB Editor and SPECCTRA® for OrCAD.

Engineering challenges I faced at the Medishare hospital Haiti.  George Balagtas

I generated a test protocol toward hopefully restoring X-ray functionality.  The mechanical engineer who has been doing his best to troubleshoot the machine believes that there might be faulty circuitry on the PCB assembly.  I did indeed discover three burnt out transistors, a couple of charred passives, and even two cracked IC's nearby the board's voltage regulators.  Literally, that board is toast!

Nick Arvanitidis, EE Graduate ’63, recipient Alumnus of the Year

Nick Arvanitidis considers himself “a philosopher,” one who offers sage advice culled from rich life experiences in the academic and business worlds. Being named Alumnus of the Year is a great honor, Arvanitidis says. “I am very grateful for what SU did for me,” he says. “Not just going to school here, but the mentoring that was provided. This is very humbling.”
