RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Walter Duncan received his Ph.D. in Professor Oleg Prezhdo's group. He investigates the ultra-fast electron transfer in dye-sensitized solar cells by performing non-adiabatic molecular dynamics simulations. The forces on the nuclei are determined in the classical path limit using DFT, and the electrons are propagated based on the resulting nuclear trajectories. Using these techniques, along with linear-response TDDFT calculations, Walter has been able to propose ways to increase solar cell voltage. He has also been able to resolve the controversy regarding the interfacial injection mechanism; this is relevant to molecular electronics where the molecule-semiconductor interface is still poorly understood.
