The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seattle University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with an environmental engineering emphasis to begin September 2008. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in the environmental engineering area including water and wastewater engineering, hazardous waste management, green engineering, environmental chemistry, environmental biology and air pollution engineering. Teaching responsibilities will also include advising a year-long, industrially sponsored senior design project. The ability to teach undergraduate courses in other areas of civil engineering is also desired.

Seattle University, founded in 1891, continues a more than four hundred and fifty year tradition of Jesuit Catholic higher education. The University’s Jesuit Catholic ideals underscore its commitment to the centrality of teaching, learning and scholarship, of values-based education grounded in the Jesuit and Catholic traditions, of service and social justice, of lifelong learning, and of educating the whole person. Located in the heart of dynamic Seattle, the University enrolls approximately 7,200 undergraduate and graduate students in eight colleges and schools. Students enjoy a university ethos characterized by small classes, individualized faculty attention, a strong sense of community, a commitment to diversity, and an outstanding faculty.

Seattle University places particular emphasis on quality teaching. A successful faculty member is also expected to establish a consistent record of scholarly activity and to contribute to the department, college, and university through participation on committees or other governance activities.

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in civil and/or environmental engineering or closely related field. Successful teaching experience or clear evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and research is essential.
