ASCE Transportation Competition
1st Place for excellence in the design of safe rail-to-trail crossings for Kirkland. The students had to design a pedestrian and bicycle crossing for the city of Kirkland’s rail-to-trial. There are 6 major street crossings for this proposed trail. The students had to design conversion grade intersections on the corridor while balancing safety with cost of conversion and traffic impact. Each intersection had unique and challenging characteristics such as roadway geometry, vehicle counts and projected bicycle and pedestrian counts. Evan and Jason won 1st place for their balancing intersection safety with cost of designs and traffic delay. Most importantly, they had fun! You can read more in the Kirkland Reporter:
