ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

SEATTLE UNIVERSITY

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seattle University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position to begin September 2010. Seattle University places particular emphasis on quality teaching. Primary teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate lectures and laboratories in mechanics of materials. The ability to teach undergraduate courses in structures, transportation, surveying, or AutoCAD is also highly desirable. Teaching responsibilities will also include advising a year-long, industrially sponsored senior design project. We seek a candidate with a research plan related to sustainable infrastructure development. We expect our faculty members to establish a consistent record of scholarly activity within their area of expertise and to contribute to the department, college, and university through participation on committees or other service activities. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in civil engineering and preference will be given to candidates who can meet the requirements to become a licensed Professional Engineer.

The University:   Seattle University, founded in 1891, continues a more than four hundred and fifty year tradition of Jesuit Catholic higher education. The University’s Jesuit Catholic ideals underscore its commitment to the centrality of teaching, learning, and scholarship, of values-based education grounded in the Jesuit and Catholic traditions of service and social justice, of lifelong learning, and of educating the whole person. Located in the heart of dynamic Seattle, the University enrolls approximately 7,600 undergraduate and graduate students in eight colleges and schools. Students enjoy a university ethos largely characterized by small classes, individualized faculty attention, a strong sense of community, a commitment to diversity, and an outstanding faculty. Seattle University is an equal opportunity employer. More information is available at:  http://www.seattleu.edu/.

Review of applications will begin November 16, 2009. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
