Dr. Thompson is currently studying the presence of pharmaceutical chemicals in biosolids. His recent work has examined the stability of anaerobic digesters during periods of high loading and the effectiveness and life-cycle costs of alternative drinking water treatment systems for developing countries. His other research interests have focused on the use of plants to restore soil and groundwater contaminated with explosives wastes. Professor Thompson teaches courses in environmental engineering and economics and is the faculty advisor for the Seattle University student chapter of Engineers Without Borders and World Water Partners.
