Pre-Health Advisory Committee Resources
Pre-Health Advisory Committee Overview
The Pre-Health Advisory Committee (PHAC) is a resource for Seattle University students to help prepare for the health professions graduate school application and interview process. The committee is chaired by the Pre-Health Academic Advisor and typically includes 2-3 other SU faculty/staff. Applicants who interview have the option to receive a committee letter, which will be submitted to the appropriate application service(s) along with the applicant's individual reference letters.
Seattle University students are not required to meet with the committee, but those who do must follow the requirements outlined here: 2013 PHAC student eligibility. Interviews are held in late April and throughout May. Alumni and re-applicants are welcome to interview with the committee, but should be in contact with the Pre-Health Advisor in the fall to discuss options.
Benefits of Meeting with the Committee
Students can greatly benefit from meeting with the PHAC. Interviews are an important part of the application and admissions process for health professions graduate schools. Practicing in this, and/or other mock interview formats will be helpful for applicants. In addition, the PHAC will provide applicants with feedback on their materials, impressions of the alignment between applicant's professional goals and experiences, and the applicant's performance in the interview.
Planning Ahead
Students and alumni are encouraged to attend an Application Prep Workshop and start working on the Applicant Self-Assessment two years in advance of when they intend to apply. Application Prep Workshops are held in Fall and Winter quarters. Applicant Self-Assessments are available to students after attending an Application Prep Workshops. Quarterly meetings with the Pre-Health Advisor to talk through the Applicant Self-Assessment, and set short and long term goals will be helpful in presenting a well-rounded application.
