Science and Engineering Advising Essentials

The College Science and Engineering uses a shared advising model utilizing both faculty and professional academic advisors. Faculty and professional advisors provide in-depth information about academic disciplines, courses, and special opportunities. Faculty advisors are located in specific departments/program and professional advisors are located in the Science and Engineering Advising Center.

S&E Academic Advising is a partnership among students, faculty, and staff,that is connected to the mission and is guided by our core values of care, academic excellence, diversity, faith, justice, and leadership. Advising has the following goals:

• helping students to develop as educated persons, as engaged citizens, as professionals, and as leaders.
• helping students to plan their educational paths including personal and professional development, to
• connecting students to academic and co-curricular programs of the university, and to

Academic Advising Requirements

All Sciences and Engineering students have an assigned academic advisor who is either located in their major department/program or in the Science and Engineering Advising Center. Academic advising requirements vary by department and major, however, the college adheres to the following academic advising requirements:

• Freshman will meet with advisors 1-on-1 during each quarter of the freshman year. Advising holds will be placed on each student to enforce the requirement.
• New transfer students will meet with their advisors before registering for their second and third quarters. All students should meet with their academic advisors at least once per year. Check with your department to find out specific requirements.
• Each student will discuss a course plan with an advisor upon entering the new major.
• Students on first quarter probation must meet with a professional advisor in the Science and Engineering Advising Center to discuss success strategies.
