Becoming a Tutor
The Learning Assistance Programs' tutoring program is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Tutors are therefore eligible to earn tutoring certificates at the Regular Level/Level I and the Advanced Level/Level II upon completion of the required number of training and tutoring hours.
Tutor positions become available at the end of each quarter.

Job Expectations:
- Meet regularly with students either individually or in small groups to assist them in understanding course concepts.
- Share strategies for learning and studying the subject to help students become more successful in learning independently.
- Maintain tutor logs and meet monthly with the tutoring coordinator to discuss student progress.
- Attend required quarterly tutor trainings to build skills in assisting students.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Good grasp of course content evidenced by grades of B or better and faculty recommendation.
- Ability to explain and clarify course concepts.
- Evidence of interpersonal skills, dependability, and desire to support students in their learning.
- Previous tutoring experience, formal or informal, is helpful but not required.
- Unofficial copy of transcript required for courses you would like to tutor and have not taken at Seattle University.
Hours:
Assignment of students to tutors is based on demand for services and compatibility of schedules, therefore we cannot guarantee a specific number of tutoring hours each week. Prospective tutors must have a minimum availability of 5 hours per week for each quarter they wish to tutor. Attendance at training is required each quarter in order to tutor. Tutors are paid for training hours and for time they are authorized and actually meet with students.
Salary:
Student wages: Level 1 $9.70 (2013-2014)

Complete a tutor application and be interviewed by the tutor coordinator.
