Faculty Rights and Responsibilities

Faculty have the responsibility to:

  • Inform students who request accommodations directly from you that disabilities services are available through the Learning Center.
  • Include a statement about requesting accommodations in your syllabus.
  • Consider students with disabilities when designing off-campus experiences or atypical class activities.
  • Take part in the accommodation process listed above by completing steps numbered 4 and 6.
  • Join with your department and the designated administrator of your school in deciding whether a requested accommodation would change the essential nature or standards of the curriculum (the administrator for your school is listed on the School Contacts page).

Faculty have the right to:

  • Timely, reasonable requests regarding accommodations.
  • Enough information about individual student needs so that teaching and advising responsibilities can be fulfilled.
  • Information and support from the designated administrator of their school or college.
  • Dispute resolution through the Seattle University Section 504/ADA Policy and Appeal Procedure.
