Obtaining a list of your advisee email addresses on Outlook

Addresses on Outlook include advisee lists for all advisors.

  • On your email message on the address list (To: window) type zz-"your user name"-Advisees (e.g. zz-smithj-Addvisees)
  • Put this convenient feature to use! - it is an easy way to send a single message with important updates, reminders and "attached" information to all of your advisees.

    Accessing and Using SU Online, SU’s Advising & Information System

    Seattle University’s web registration system, SU-Online, provides access to the information needed to successfully advise: all pertinent academic data on students as well as courses and schedule information.

    Accessing SU-Online for the first time:

    1. Take FERPA* Training (*Family Educational Right to Privacy Act) All employees accessing student records must take this training and renew it every 2 years to support our goal of working within the appropriate legal boundaries with regard to the handling and communication of student data. To take the training, go to FERPA Training
    2. Log-on to SU-Online http://suonline.seattleu.edu
      • At the ‘User ID’ field: type in your e-mail address (without the ‘@seattleu.edu)
      • At the ‘Password’ field: type in your SU logon password

    If you forgot your password, go to http://owa.seattleu.edu and follow the link for “forgot password” at the bottom of the screen.

    Using SU-Online functions:

    Search for Classes

    1. Click Search for Classes on the Main Menu (No need to log in)
    2. Choose term and narrow your search by choosing subject, school, department, start time/day, a specific core requirement, or combinations of these elements.

    To search for classes by core requirement or core track category, scroll down. You will see the Course Comment Keywords option. From this pull down menu, you can select a core requirement or core track category that fits your advisee’s academic interest.

    Advisee List

    1. Click Access Faculty Menu.
    2. Click My Advisees under the Faculty Information Menu.
    3. Log into SU Online.
    4. Ignore the Student Name box. Type your name into the Advisor Name box.

    How to Access a Single Student’s Record

    1. Log into SU-Online.
    2. Choose My Advisees.
    3. Enter either the student’s name, student ID, or your name.

    Program Evaluation

    1. Log into SU-Online.
    2. Choose My Advisees.
    3. Enter either the student’s name, student ID, or your name.
    4. Under the ‘Action’ column, click on PREV and submit.
    5. You have TWO options: Choose the current major OR any major your advisee wishes to pursue.
    6. Click Submit.

    Note that all freshmen, regardless of the major, have an advising hold.

    1. Log into SU-Online.
    2. Choose My Advisees.
    3. Enter either the student’s name, student ID, or your name.
    4. Under the ‘Action’ column, click on RESTR and submit.
    5. Click on the box under ‘Check Restrictions to end’ which is next to the advising restriction and submit.
