Credit and Course Load Guidelines 

 Credits: University courses are assigned a one hour credit value (credit hour) for every hour spent in the classroom within a week. Most classes are 3 to 5 credit hours each and a typical undergraduate credit load is 15 credit hours (three 5 credit courses) per quarter. Most majors require 180 credits to graduate; 225 for a double degree. A minor is usually 30 credits. Students earning 45 credits per year or more can expect to graduate in four years.

Course Load:  A full-time class load is 12 or more credit hours. Carrying less than 12 credits classifies a student as part-time. Students wishing to register for more than 18 credits must obtain permission from their Dean unless the student has earned more than 45 credits and a 3.50 grade point average or above. Pay attention to how many credits you think you can handle during the school year.

Work, Study, and Life Balance:  Plan to study 2 hours for every credit taken, so a 5 credit course requires 10 hours of study outside the classroom per week.
