Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP)

Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP) is a 3 or 4 week program between junior and senior year. Cadets who have completed LDAC and Med-Surg 1 or an equivalent course travel to an Army hospital in the United States or around the globe and work under the mentorship of an Army nurse. Cadets experience the same schedule as their preceptor working full-time days or nights. During their shifts, nursing cadets perform assessments and practice skills like IV insertion and medication administration that their Seattle University College of Nursing peers won't perform until senior practicum or their first job! In their off time, cadets work on an independent inservice project to be presented at the end of the course. Inservice presentations are related to the unit they are working on and are a great way to synthesize the information learned and present it to peers. Despite working a full schedule, there is plenty of time to experience the sights, sounds, and tourist opportunities of their NSTP destination.
