Commencement Information and Exceptions

 Commencement with Deficiencies Policy (83-1)

Undergraduate students who have ten or fewer credits and graduate students who have six or fewer credits are eligible to participate in commencement, as long as they meet the grade point standards for their degree programs as of winter quarter.  

Attend Commencement with Deficiencies Request Form - Petition for Exception to Policy Form 

Students can attend commencement with a certain number of credits remaining, if over this amount a student can attempt to petition the policy with a Petition for Exception to Policy form. 

Honors at Graduation Undergraduate Only Policy (75-21)

Graduation with honors requires the minimum completion of 90 credits earned in regularly graded courses (courses in which the grades of A, B, C, D, or F are given).

• Cum Laude 3.50 to 3.69
• Magna Cum Laude 3.70 to 3.89
• Summa Cum Laude 3.90 to 4.00

President's and Provost's Award at Commencement Policy (75-12)

Awarded to a first-time freshman and transfer student, respectively, who has maintained the highest Seattle University grade point average throughout the undergraduate degree.

Certificate Completion Application Form 

Application for completion of certificate, the application deadline is the first week of the term in which you plan to complete the course work for the certificate.
