membership

The Fitness Center offers memberships to the following individuals:

Registration

To register for a membership, the individual should complete the application and submit the form in person to the Guest Services Desk. Additionally, the individual should be prepared to show current medical insurance as well as the appropriate documentation, which is as follows:

  • Student, Faculty, & Staff Memberships: No documentation
  • Alumni Memberships: Confirmation form from the Alumni Relations Office (12th & Marion) acknowledging alumni status
  • LDA Memberships: Drivers License, documentation verifying a financial relationship between the member and the individual (lease, marriage certificate, driver's license showing shared address, etc.)
  • Dependent Memberships: No documentation

Student, Faculty, & Staff, Memberships

Beginning July 1, 2012, the fee structure for faculty/staff and their families will be as follows:

  • Faculty/Staff Base Rate: $300 annually ($25/month) for one adult membership, which can be either a Faculty/Staff member or his/her Legally Domiciled Adult
  • Two Adult Memberships: $250 annually ($37.50/month) for Faculty/Staff membership and a Faculty/Staff Legally Domiciled Adult membership
  • One Adult and One Dependent Membership: $450 annually ($37.50/month)
  • Two Adults and Unlimited Dependent Memberships (Family Memberships): $600 annually ($50/month)

Students will also be assessed a fee, but it will be included in their invoice from Seattle University and is automatically included.

Through June 30, 2012, our current policy will remain in place, which is as follows:

Students currently enrolled at Seattle University (at least one credit) as well as full-time and part-time faculty/staff members of the University automatically have a free membership to the Fitness Center and may enter the facility with their SU ID card.

Membership fee:

  • Free

Alumni Memberships

Alumni memberships are available on a limited basis for non-prime hours. Prime hours are Monday – Thursday, 3:30-6:30pm, from Labor Day through June 20, restricting alumni member access during these times. Additionally, the LDAs and dependents of alumni members must also adhere to these restricted hours.

To obtain an alumni membership, an individual must have earned 90 credits at Seattle University and/or earned a degree. The individual registering for the alumni membership must present a referral form from Alumni Relations verifying that the individual meets these criteria.

Alumni memberships are offered on a quarterly and annual basis. The applicable fees are as follows.

  • Annual: $240
  • Quarterly: $90

Finally, all alumni members must obtain a valid Seattle University, University Recreation ID from the Seattle University Campus Card office, which is located in Engineering 313, and is open Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 4:30pm (See Section 10.11).

Legally Domiciled Adult (LDA) Memberships

LDAs of members may obtain membership to the Fitness Center. In accordance with the requirements set forth by Seattle University Human Resources, to be considered an LDA, an individual must meet the following criteria:

An LDA is an individual over 18 who has for at least 6 months lived in the same principal residence with the sponsor and remains a member of the sponsor's household throughout the coverage period, and who either:

  • Has a close personal relationship with the sponsor (not a casual roommate or tenant), shares basic living expenses and is financially interdependent with the sponsor, is neither legally married to anyone else nor legally related to the sponsor by blood in a way that would prohibit marriage.
  • Is the sponsor's blood relative who meets the definition of his or her tax dependent as defined by Section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code during the coverage period.

Membership Fee:

  • LDA of Faculty/Staff: Free
  • LDA of Student: $240 Annually / $90 Quarterly
  • LDA of Alumni: $240 Annually / $90 Quarterly

Required Documentation:

An individual must present their Driver’s license in addition to the following upon initially obtaining a membership. Upon renewals documentation will be verified on an annual basis.

OPTION 1 - One document from column A and column B:

Column A: 

  • Common ownership of real property (joint deed or mortgage agreement) or a common leasehold interest in a property
  • Common ownership of a motor vehicle
  • Driver’s license listing a common address

Column B: 

  • Proof of joint bank accounts or credit accounts
  • Proof of designation as the primary beneficiary for life insurance or retirement benefits or primary beneficiary designation under the other’s will
  • Assignment of durable property power of attorney or health care power of attorney

 OPTION 2 - One document from column C:

Column C: 

  • Marriage Certificate
  • State Registered Domestic Partnership Documentation

 *If at any time a sponsor loses his/her access to the facility (no longer employed at the University, etc.), the LDA will also forfeit his/her membership.

Dependent Memberships

Dependents of members may obtain a membership to the Fitness Center. In accordance with the requirements set forth by Seattle University Human Resources, to be considered a dependent, an individual must meet the following criteria:

A dependent is an individual who is an unmarried dependent up to age 26 (as defined by IRS regulations) who is one of the following in relation to the member:

  • natural child
  • stepchild
  • foster child
  • legally adopted child
  • child for whom the sponsor is the court appointed guardian
  • child of LDA, if eligible, and if the LDA is also a sponsor

The following restrictions apply:

  • Children under the age of 16 cannot obtain a membership independent of the sponsor and will not be issued a separate membership card. Instead, the sponsor's card will include information denoting that he/she has a dependent under the age of 16 who has a membership to the facility.
  • Children 4 years of age and younger do not require any type of membership to utilize the facility, but they must be supervised by their sponsor at all times.

Membership Fee:

  • Dependent of Faculty/Staff: Free
  • Dependent of Student: $60 Annually / $30 Quarterly
  • Dependent of Alumni $60 Annually / $30 Quarterly

*If at any time the sponsor loses his/her membership to the facility, the dependent(s) also forfeits his/her membership.

Sponsored Guests

Fitness Center members may sponsor one guest per visit to the facility at a cost of $5 per visit. Each individual must have a photo ID. Other restrictions apply.
