The Strategic Priorities

Academic Excellence   
The furtherance of academic excellence is the first and most important strategic goal of Seattle University.  Over the next five years, the university will establish itself as the outstanding independent university in the Pacific Northwest and a top-tier national master’s comprehensive university.  Curricular renewal, enhanced research and scholarship productivity, effective student recruitment, advising and retention practices, and improved instructional facilities, including a new science building, are all critical components in this strategy.

Engaging the World 
Education at Seattle University is characterized by a deep and respectful engagement with our global and local communities. SU programs will develop practical intercultural skills and lifelong commitments to social justice. We learn from people and cultures around the world even as we seek to understand our global responsibilities. Through the Seattle University Youth Initiative and international partnerships, we will engage with local communities in service and solidarity.     

Catholic, Jesuit Character 
Seattle University is Catholic and Jesuit in its origins, mission, and vision.  Animated by Ignatian spirituality and the apostolic vision of the Society of Jesus, Seattle University will prepare leaders who strive for a more just and humane world.  Through academic and co-curricular programming, campus ministry, and the development of the Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture and a Center for Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue, the university will play a leadership role regionally and nationally in the understanding of Catholic thought and the promotion of ecumenical and interreligious dialogue.
