Courageous Conversations

These monthly dialogues, coordinated by students and student organizations, will focus on a wide variety of issues of diversity. Courageous Conversations are open to any who wish to attend and participate. For questions contact Czarina Ramsay

Conversations with the Community

These quarterly conversations bring students together with a community leader engaged in social justice advocacy to discuss change, leadership, and issues that impact our local community.

Diversity and Equity Education Program (DEEP)

Members of the Diversity and Equity Education Program (DEEP) are SU students who create and facilitate institutional activities focused on issues relating to gender, race, class, age, ability, religion, sexual orientation, etc. These activities include, but are not limited to, campus-wide programs and workshops and trainings focused on raising awareness, cultural sensitivity, and knowledge of equity issues. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Programs and Diversity Month

Seattle University’s annual commemoration of the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. includes a celebration of his life through the arts; a keynote address by a prominent orator; and other programs that take place throughout the month of January. Connections Leadership Program

The vision of the Connections Leadership Program is to create a signature program for development of committed, connected leaders of color who possess an awareness of self, group, and community, and who are empowered to effect sustainable change. CLP begins with a three-day immersion prior to Welcome Week each fall and continues with every-other-week cohort gatherings during Fall and Winter Quarters. For questions contact Monica Nixon

Heritage Month Programs

These campus-wide educational programs honor and explore the experiences of historically underrepresented groups (i.e., African American, Asian and Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, women, and GLBTQ communities). For questions contact Jolie Harris.

The Amazing R.A.C.E. Student Diversity Conference

This conference will bring together college students from the Puget Sound region for a weekend of training and networking about diversity issues. The conference, which is being coordinated by a student planning committee, will take place at Seattle University February 27 - March 1, 2009. Intergroup Dialogue Circles

These eight-week dialogue groups bring together students to discuss privilege, oppression, and power in terms of race, gender, class, and sexual orientation. For questions contact Jolie Harris.

Caucus Groups

These identity-based groups will meet to discuss racism, heterosexism, privilege, and oppression.

Social Justice in Action Retreat

This intensive three-day, two-night multicultural retreat brings together a mixed race group of students to understand and dismantle dynamics of social oppression. Safe Zone Training

These enhanced sensitivity workshops on LGBTQ issues are offered on a quarterly basis and are open to faculty, staff, and students, as well as the general community. Designed to highlight challenges facing the LGBTQ community, the primary focus of the program is to debunk myths and stereotypes that continue to impact people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer.
