A: If you have elevated privileges on your computer, you may access the installation file at: \\oitfs2\apps\Microsoft\2007Office\. Double-click on the "SU_Install.bat" file to start the installation. You should close all programs before you attempt to install the program. Please allow 20-30 minutes for the installation to complete. After Office 2007 is installed, please restart the computer to complete the installation process. If you do not have elevated permissions on your computer, please contact the Helpdesk (x5571) to schedule an installation.
Q: Will installing Office 2007 remove my current version of Microsoft Office?
A: Yes. Office 2003 will be automatically uninstalled at the same time that Office 2007 is installed.
Q: How do I get Office 2007 for my home computer?
A: Work at Home media for Office 2007 is will be available at the Helpdesk in the near future. Faculty or Staff must currently be using Office 2007 on their work computer to be eligible for a Work at Home copy of Office 2007. Please note that there is also a 1 copy per person limit.
Q: I am using Office 2003. Will I be able to open Office 2007 documents?
A: Microsoft has an Office 2007 Compatibility Pack available that allows Office 2003 users to open and save documents using Office 2007 file formats. If you would like to have the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack installed, please contact the Helpdesk (x5571).

A: Office 2007 files are saved using the new Office Open XML File Formats. Specifically, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), and Powerpoint (.pptx) save files using the new file extensions.

Q: I am using a Mac and I received a file in the 2007 format that I cannot open. What can I do?
A: Here are a few options:
- Request that files be sent to you in the 2003/2004 file formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt)
- Open the file on a PC and save it in the 2003/2004 format (Please note that the PC will need Office 2007, or Office 2003 w/ Compatibility Pack installed)
- Send the file to the Helpdesk and ask to have the file converted
Q: Will Office 2007 force me to use the new file formats?
A: No. In fact, the Seattle University configuration of Office 2007 will be setup so that the old file formats are the default formats when saving documents. You will still be able to save documents in the new file formats by choosing "Save As" from the Office menu (the button that appears in the upper left-hand corner).
Q: Will Office 2007 change the file format of my existing documents?
A: No. When working with Office 2003/2004 files (.doc, .xls, .ppt) in Office 2007, the files will retain their 2003/2004 format unless you select "Convert" from the Office menu.
