Network Support

The Network Services team manages the wired and wireless network access among the campus buildings, specific offsite locations, and the Internet.  Remote access to campus-based systems via the Internet is also supported through the Virtual Private Network (VPN) system and VLAB. 

All systems must be configured for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP); this is also known as configured to automatically receive an IP address and DNS server address.

Wireless

As of October 2013, all buildings on campus, except for St. Ignatius Chapel, have full coverage 802.11g/a/n wireless coverage. The Bellevue and James Tower locations also provide wireless access.

Wired Network

All buildings on campus have locations containing wired network connections, except for the St. Ignatius Chapel. The following offsite locations also have wired network connectivity: James Tower, and Bellevue.

Connectivity in the residence halls and a few other locations are restricted to authorize users only.  In these locations, upon connecting, a user will need to open a web browser, and will be directed to a login page. 

Remote Access

Seattle University faculty and staff can remotely access most campus systems from any computer with an Internet connection and the appropriate Virtual Private Network (VPN) configuration or via VLAB.

Browser/certificate warnings

10/14/14

Recent improvements to website security may generate warnings on the browser(s) you use to visit your favorite websites. Websites around the world (and at SU) are replacing older "SHA-1" certificates with newer, stronger "SHA-2" certificates. While we update SU websites, you will want to keep your internet browser up-to-date with the latest patches.

Upcoming Maintenance

October maintenance

OIT will perform Planned Systems Maintenance on Friday October 17th from 6pm - midnight.

Services (wired & wireless access) and applications (Email, SUOnline, Canvas LMS etc.) will be intermittently unavailable during maintenance. 

Everything should be working after maintenance is complete; if it's not, we will let you know vie email & this website.
