Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion - Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
The Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion track is a master’s entry option available to well-qualified students who have completed an undergraduate degree. The curriculum meets both BSN and MSN program objectives. It is a full-time program of study.
Four advanced practice nursing specialties are offered: Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with Addictions Focus, Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, and Nurse-Midwifery. Graduates are prepared for independent and collaborative decision-making in disease prevention, health promotion and maintenance, physical and psychosocial assessment, and management of health and illness. Students interested in each of the primary care specialties have the opportunity to develop the nurse practitioner role in under-served and community-based settings.
Nursing Major Prerequisite Requirements include:
- MATH 110 Functions & Algebraic Methods or equivalent within 10 years (5 credits)
- PSYC 120 Introduction to Psychology or equivalent within 10 years (5 credits)
- BIO 200-210 Anatomy & Physiology with lab or equivalent within 5 years (10 credits)
- BIO 220 Microbiology with lab or equivalent within 5 years (5 credits)
- PSYC 322 Growth and Development or equivalent within 10 years (5 credits)
- NURS 346 Statistics or equivalent within 5 years (5 credits)
In addition: 1 year of High School or 1 quarter of college chemistry is also a major prerequisite.
Admission Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- College Grade Point Average 3.0 or greater
- GRE General Test
- Letter of Intent
- Professional Résumé
- 2 Recommendations on Seattle University Forms
- Test of English Language, if English is a second language
After applications are reviewed, selected applicants will be invited for an interview with faculty.
Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion - Nurse Midwifery Specialty
The Nurse-Midwifery specialty requires completion of 112-115 course credits. Students may choose an additional elective in Global Health for Clinicians, and all students choose between the Scholarly Project (3 credits) and Thesis (6 credits) for their capstone experience.
