The Development of a Web-Based Intervention for Diabetes Self-Management
The goal of this proposal is to expand the current functionality of a diabetes web page (www.diabetes-takecharge.org) and conduct a usability evaluation of the expanded functionality. The extended functionality of the current application will include: 1) integration of exercise, weight, and blood sugar readings module with the goal setting module (reminders and alerts will be sent to users depending on their goal setting selections as related to their self care activities, 2) provision of a framework that will allow a variety of flexible standard modules for programming purposes (authorization, authentication, user management, bulletin board, announcement, FAQ), 3) upgrade the graphical display of the log of activity summaries (blood pressure, weight, blood sugars and weight), 4) and develop an engine that is capable of predicting future blood glucose levels and the pending risks of hypoglycemia.

Telehealth for Diabetes Self-Management CRC
This clinical trial will evaluate both the feasibility and the short and long-term efficacy of a six-month web-based telehealth intervention for improving diabetic self-management behavior and psychosocial well being. A secondary benefit will be the identification of patient and intervention characteristics (such as age, gender, medical comorbidity, self efficacy, previous Internet experience, and amount of time spent interacting with the intervention) that may influence the study outcomes.

This project will ask older diabetes to use and evaluate the a diabetes web site that will be used in a future clinical trial to understand the benefits and risks of an Internet treatment program on the health of older adults with type 2 diabetes. The ultimate goal of this project is to obtain information about the feasibility and usability of the study web-page.
