The SU chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit institutions of higher education, has announced its 2012 inductees, including 7 new nursing students. Congratulations to Marla Brucken, Miller Sherling, Roumelia Jordan, Joseph Koczarski, Amanda Thurmon, Mary Wineinger, and Chermaine Wulff.

Congratulations to senior nursing student, Kristine Coonce, on being selected for the Nurse Scholarship Program. "I have so enjoyed my clinical experiences at SU and the close one-on-one learning and dialogue with clinical instructors," says Kristine. In exchange for at least 2 years service at a health care facility, the program will pay for the remainder of her BSN degree program.

Jennifer Fricas, RN, MPH, has had a poster accepted at the 19th Annual Global Health Education Consortium conference, which will also serve as the First Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Global Health.

The College of Nursing has received official notice regarding approval for the nurse-midwifery specialty in the MSN program. Full pre-accreditation status without recommendations or progress reports has been granted by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME).

Mary Jean Comnick, BSN ’69, was named HCAW Nurse of the Year for 2009 by the Home Care Association of Washington.

A recent nursing grad, Rachel Collins, APNI '09, won the 4th Annual Emerald City Search this weekend by finding the prize medallion located outside Jive Time Records in Fremont.

Patrick Murphy, PhD has received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health for his lab research on molecular mechanisms of cellular chaperone proteins. He was also recently named Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year.

Anita Jablonski, RN, PhD has been awarded another year of funding to continue her research into the effects of pain management among elderly nursing home residents.
