Post-MSN Doctor of Nursing Practice

The Post Masters Doctor of Nursing Practice requires completion of 40 to 60 quarter credits and 500 clinical hours. The program of study includes up to 10 credits per quarter over 6 quarters. Variations from this plan will be considered on an individual basis. Up to 16 credits taken at the MSN level within the past 6 years may be applied to satisfy program requirements based on review of transcripts and course syllabi.

Admission Requirements for the Post-MSN DNP

  • Current RN licensure with no practice restrictions
  • MSN from an CCNE or NLNAC accredited nursing program and an accredited college
    or university
  • Successful completion of graduate nursing courses in pathophysiology, pharmacology
    and advanced health assessment for nurse practitioner or nurse-midwifery tracks
  • Completion of at least 500 hours of supervised clinical practice in the specialty
    area at the MSN level
  • Certification or eligibility for certification in an advanced practice nursing
    specialty preferred
  • Completed application and nonrefundable fee
  • Letter of intent and curriculum vita demonstrating academic ability, potential
    for leadership, clinical scholarship, and fit with SUCON mission and values
  • Two letters of recommendation from people who can speak to the applicant’s
    potential for success in a doctoral level advanced practice nursing program
  • If English is a second language, official and sufficient English proficiency
    test scores
  • Applications are reviewed and applicants are selected for an interview with faculty.
    A writing sample will be required as part of invited interviews
