Teaming-up with Hope Heart Institute, we recently held our first Teen Take Heart™ Program workshop. Teachers from participating Washington state high schools, along with Seattle U CON grad students, attended the three day long interactive learning experience.

Colleagues from SU, University of Washington, and Hope Heart collaborated in “teaching-the-teacher” as we continue to roll out the program.

Area high schools currently participating:
Muckleshoot Tribal School (Auburn)
Health Sciences and Human Services High School (Tukwila)
Wahluke High School (Mattawa)
Life Christian Center (Tacoma)
Fort Vancouver High School (Vancouver)
Soap Lake City Middle and High School (Soap Lake)

Teen Take Heart is a science-based cardiovascular program for high-school students, which aims to promote wellness and prevention through in-class instruction and kit-based lessons.

The program focuses on underserved communities at high risk for Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), and participating students are coached to serve as ambassadors to their community; organize and lead outreach events; and connect individuals, families, and communities to health-related resources. Students’ work with the program also provides excellent exposure to careers in health care.

Stay tuned for more on Teen Take Heart as the program develops.
