The College of Nursing was honored to be invited by our colleagues at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Public Health Seattle-King County to co-host a reception for U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin and some of our nation’s top health directors.
As part of a nationwide initiative by the Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Benjamin was in Seattle conducting a town-hall meeting at the University of Washington to present her report on "Preventing Tobacco Use Among Youth and Young Adults”. The day long, intergenerational discussion, brought together health leaders and students to network and discuss best practices in awareness and education to reduce smoking among our nation’s young people.
We were honored to be included in this opportunity to bring such an impressive group of advocates and leaders together that evening to continue the conversation around this important health topic.
Along with local and regional health care executives, students, Seattle University Deans and department leaders, and our colleagues from neighboring colleges and universities, Dr. Benjamin, Dr. Lawrence Deyton from the FDA, Dr. Timothy McAfee of the CDC, and Dr. Cliff Douglas, Director of Tobacco Research Network at University of Michigan were our guests.
The College of Nursing continues to expand upon its mission to educate nursing leaders, and we work hard to preserve a collaborative environment for our students and colleagues for the coming-together of ideas, and for the promotion of critical thinking, which will help improve the health and welfare of our communities.
