Please join us in congratulating Dr. Anne Hirsch, PhD, ARNP, on her appointment by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee to serve as one of 29 individuals (and the only nurse) on the new Performance Measures Coordinating Committee, a panel charged with recommending standard statewide measures of health performance by 2015.
The committee is co-chaired by Dorothy Teeter, director of the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) and Mary McWilliams, executive director of the Washington Health Alliance.
The Performance Measures Committee was created as a requirement of House Bill 2572, legislation calling for transformation of the state’s health care delivery system through strategies proposed in the State Health Care Innovation Plan for a healthier Washington.
As required by legislation, the committee includes an impressive roster of representatives from health research, medicine, behavioral health, insurance plans, public health, health care practices and specialties, consumer groups, minority populations, the business community and other areas. Individuals tapped represent urban, suburban and rural populations from across the state, as well as organizations representing a variety of health care professions.
The Performance Measures Committee will recommend standard statewide measures of health performance to inform public and private health care purchasing, as well as propose targets to track costs and improvements in health outcomes. Other members of the committee include Kathy Lofy, MD, state health officer, Department of Health; Daniel Lessler, MD, chief medical officer, HCA; and Jane Beyer, assistant secretary for behavioral health and service integration, DSHS, and a representative of the Department of Labor and Industries.
Dr. Hirsch is Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Professor at the SU College of Nursing. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Washington Center for Nursing [http://www.wcnursing.org/], is a co-chair for a subcommittee of the Washington Nursing Action Coalition and serves as a site evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Later this month, she will be inducted as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP).
Congratulations, Dr. Hirsch! Your exceptional achievements and advocacy have rightly contributed to this recognition of your leadership in promoting health throughout Washington State.
