New Nurse-Midwifery Specialty Offered
The College of Nursing has received official notice regarding approval for the nurse-midwifery specialty in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program. Full pre-accreditation status without recommendations or progress reports has been granted by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME).
The Nurse-Midwifery specialty is unique in that it includes not only the basic core competencies required by certifying agencies, but also a focus on global midwifery practice. It incorporates the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) Home-based Life Saving Skills curriculum into the program and also includes an optional clinical course in a low resource setting outside the United States. The college will begin admitting students to the specialty during the next admission cycle for the MSN program.
