Additional commuter benefits
In a spirit of sustainability and community partnership, SU provides many alternatives to driving. For more information, please contact Public Safety.

Walkers, joggers and bicyclists
There is a large locker room and showers on the first floor of the Student Center specifically for these commuters. To rent a locker, contact the Campus Assistance Center (CAC) in the Student Center. There are 40 covered bike spaces in the Murphy Parking Garage.  All registered walkers, joggers and bicyclists receive a complementary parking card for five days of parking each month on days they absolutely have to drive due to schedule or personal reasons.

Visit openinnewwindowhttp://www.metrokc.gov/kcdot/roads/bike/index.cfm for additional Seattle area bicycling tips.*

Evening shuttle
Public Safety provides an evening shuttle to students, staff, and faculty who live near campus.  This allows those who walk to campus during the short winter months an option to walking home in the dark.

Guaranteed ride home
The University pays for a cab ride home in case of an emergency for any employee that typically commutes to campus by carpool, vanpool, van share, walking or biking.

Reduced price for carpool parking
Participants in a carpool split the cost of one Single Occupancy Vehicle (SOV) Parking Permit that’s been reduced by about half and enjoy premium reserved parking spaces.

Maxi pool program
The on campus parking fee is waived for carpools of four or more students, faculty or staff.

SOV carpool program
A Single Occupancy Vehicle Parking Permit holder who occasionally carpools can park in a reserved carpool parking space and receive a $1.90 voucher on the days they commute to campus with at least another person in their car.

Vanpool and van share
King County Metro supplies a van for a group of students, faculty or staff to commute together.  The group shares Metro’s van use fee and SU waives the on campus parking fee.  In a vanpool, one group member keeps the vehicle at their home. In a van share, the van is kept at a train station, ferry dock or park and ride where the group meets.

Flex Car*
openinnewwindowFlex Car, the car-sharing company which rents cars by the hour, has partnered with Seattle University to park a Flexcar on campus.   You can reserve a Flexcar online at a moment’s notice.  Rates average $10/hour and include gas, insurance, cleaning, maintenance, and 150 miles/day.  SU employees that carpool, vanpool, van share, walk, or bike to campus can drive to a lunch meeting or doctor’s appointment during the work day in a Flex Car. SU pays the first year’s membership, application fees and a 2.5 hour trial for faculty and staff

Transit itinerary creation assistance
The Public Safety Office will assist any student, faculty or staff with planning their commute using the regional transit system.  This includes figuring out bus routes to take and scheduling.

Transit Pass-Flex Pass
Employees pay less than 30% of the value for an annual transit Flex Pass that covers bus and train travel across three counties, a Van Pool and Van Share subsidy and emergency taxi rides home.  Flex Pass holders receive a complementary parking card giving them five days of parking each month for days they absolutely have to drive due to schedule or personal reasons.

Walk on ferry passenger subsidy
The University gives a 75% subsidy that allows the employee to pay only 25% of the walk on pass face value.
