Social Justice Immersion Focus on Youth
Seattle University is located in one of the most culturally
diverse neighborhoods in the entire Northwest. Even though SU students spend
four years going to school in this neighborhood, this immersion will allow you
to experience your community in a completely different way! You will meet
people from many different East African and Asian cultures, and learn about the
gifts, challenges, and opportunities of growing up in the neighborhood. We'll
explore the issues that youth in the neighborhood face, including language
barriers, education, and gentrification. During the immersion, we will visit
schools, community partners, do direct service, go on a scavenger hunt, and
interact with the youth and families who call the Central District home.
Limited to 15 students.
Students without the required gear will not be able to
participate in the immersion.
Remember we all need to pack light. This is only a short
trip and we have limited room in the vans. Please bring your own if possible.
If you cannot, please let us know by August 30th.
