Hiking in the Cascade Mountains

  • Trip Information

All four hiking groups will be staying together at a Mountaineer's lodge (woodsy, bunk-style accommodations) on the east side of Snoqualmie Pass the on both nights. Evenings include free-time, group activities, and team building. Thursday offers three different levels of hikes through which we will experience the beauty of the Cascades.

    Strenuous Cascade Hike  FULL

Hike a steep but beautiful 9 mile (round trip) trail with switchbacks and elevation gains of around 2300 feet, ending at an alpine lake.

    2 Moderate Cascade Hikes

Also ending at alpine lakes, the moderate hikes are around 7 miles long but with only around 1300 feet incline.

    Short Cascade Hike

Moderate incline and only 4 miles round trip. Sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes required! Limited to 10 students and two leaders per trail.

    PLEASE get in shape NOW!!!

    List of Gear to Bring

Students without the required gear won't be able to go on the hike.

    • Sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes
    • A lightweight waterproof jacket (and rain pants are also highly recommended)
    • Do NOT wear cotton. This includes sweatshirts and jeans. If it rains or if you perspire, cotton will hold moisture to your body and cool you off dramatically. Think FLEECE and NYLON. We recommend you wear some type of Cool Max, capilene, or polypropylene t-shirt or long underwear underneath your outer layers.
    • Sleeping bag
    • Water bottle(s)
    • Day pack to carry your lunch, hat, gloves and any other warm gear that you may need at the lake
    • Any medication, especially any for allergies you may have. PLEASE alert us with any medical conditions you have that we should be aware of.

    Strongly Recommended

    • Clothes for 2 days, including hiking shorts and a pair of pants
    • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.)
    • Small Towel
    • Flashlight
    • Sunglasses
    • Hat or Bandana
    • Sunscreen
    • Insect repellent
    • Camera if you want photos
    • Any other equipment that may be necessary for you
    • Your campus card for Friday night and to get back into your residence hall.

Remember we all need to pack light, this is only a short trip and we won't have tons of room. Please try to keep all your gear in one duffle bag.
