Manchester United, a member of the Premier League in Great Britain and one of the most famous soccer clubs in the world, made two recent stops at Seattle University's Championship Field. Last Thursday, they practiced in preparation for tonight’s match against Seattle Sounders FC.
They held the hour-and-a-half training session after flying from Boston following its July 13 match against the New England Revolution. The session was described by Man U's Nick Coppack as "rigorous."
Members of the club, including Wayne Rooney, considered one of the top soccer players in the world, returned Tuesday night, for a clinic benefiting Special Olympians. Players from the Seattle University men's and women's soccer teams along with coaches representing Seattle Sounders FC helped guide the youngsters through soccer drills and games.
Manchester United chose Championship Field as a training site because the natural-grass pitch closely matches the temporary field laid down at CenturyLink Field.
