Seattle U Study Abroad Program Earns High Ranks
The "Open Doors Report On International Education Exchange" has once again ranked Seattle University as one of the “top in the Master’s class” for participation in education abroad participation during the 2008-2009 academic years. The university has received this honor since 2006.
SU ranked in the ‘Top 20Leading Institutions’ in its category for “short-term programparticipation” and the “total number abroad,” maintaining its previous achievements. The university also returned to national distinction in the percent of undergraduates abroad, and for the first time made the list for “long-term programparticipation” with 20 students studying abroad for a full year.
After three decades of steady growth, national study abroad trends slowed during the last year. SU also experienced a down-turn in total participation, but the national rankings rose in nearly every category in the Master’s class. As the rest of the nation began a small move towards sending students to less traditional locations, SU continued its Mission-inspiredtrend of sending most students to non-traditional locations including: Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.
The ranking demonstrates the growth and achievement of the education abroad program at Seattle U and its promise for global engagement despite downward national trends.
