SU Alumnus Awarded Medal of Honor

Former Capt. William Swenson, a 2001 Seattle University political science graduate, received the Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama on Oct. 15. 

The SU alumnus received the medal for risking his life above and beyond the call of duty during a Sept. 8, 2009 battle with Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan. He is the first army officer since the Vietnam War to receive the nation's highest award for valor. He joins just six other living medal recipients.
