Typical Fall Quarter Schedules by College

College of  Arts & Sciences

Most students who have been accepted into a major within the College of Arts & Sciences will take 3 Core courses OR 2 Core courses and a modern language class in Fall Quarter.  

All students with a major in the College of Arts and Sciences must demonstrate competency through the level of one full year of study in a language other than English. This competency is ordinarily achieved by the successful completion of the three-course sequence or successfully placing into a year two language course through the modern language placement test.  The three course sequence is offered over one year: 115 quarter in fall quarter, 125 in winter quarter and 135 in spring quarter.  Students who indicate interest in a language which they have studied at least 2 years in high school are not placed into a language class until after they take the placement exam.  Students are not required to take the modern language sequence in year 1.  Many students complete the sequence in their 2nd year.

Albers School of Business & Economics

Most students who have been accepted into a major within the Albers School of Business & Economics will take 2 Core courses and a math course in Fall Quarter. 

All students with a major in the Albers School of Business & Economics are required to complete Math 130, Calculus for Business or MATH 134.  MATH 130 has a prerequisite of MATH 118, Precalculus for Business and MATH 110, College Algebra.  
Your SAT,  ACT, Running Start or college level credit will place 
you into one of these three classes.  If you place into MATH 110 or 118 you will see that course along with 2 Core courses on your fall schedule.  Students placing in MATH 130 may or may not see it on their schedule depending on availability.   You should take MATH 130 in winter quarter if you have not been scheduled for it in the Fall and meet the prerquisites.  Students with Running Start or college credit for MATH 130 have satisfied their Math requirement.  Students may discuss MATH 134 as an option with an adviser at Summer in Seattle.

College of Science & Engineering

Majors in Science & Engineering require students to start major requirements in fall quarter.  For this reason it is difficult to outline a “typical” schedule, but we will do our best to show some rough guidelines.  Your schedule may look different, but an adviser at Summer in Seattle will explain any anomalies.
Chemistry and BioChemistry Majors: Students typically take a math course, chemistry course and Core course.
Biology Majors: Students typically take 2 science courses and a math or Core course.
Engineering Majors: Students studying Mechanical, Civil and Environmental and Electrical and Computer Engineering typically take a math course, Intro to Engineering course(s) and a Core course.
Math, Computer Science, Physics and Diagnostic Ultrasound: Students studying within these majors typically take a math course and 2 Core courses.

College of Nursing

Most students who have been accepted into the College of Nursing will take 2 Core courses and a math course.

Nursing majors are typically placed into MATH 110, College Algebra.  Students who have Running Start or college level credit for math have satisfied their math requirement.  Students with higher SAT/ACT scores will be placed into MATH 118 or MATH 120.

Premajor

Students who are undecided about their major, or do not yet meet the requirements of their desired major, are “premajors”.  On the preference form you will be asked what major(s) you intend to declare or are interested in exploring.  This answer will determine how we register you for fall quarter.

Students indicating an interest in Arts and Sciences or who are generally undecided, typically are registered for 3 Core courses.  Students with interest in Business, Science & Engineering or Nursing will typically be registered for 2 Core courses and math.

Matteo Ricci College

Students admitted to the MRC program are registered by the Matteo Ricci College.  You are still required to complete theNew Student Preferences and Housing Form and attend Summer in Seattle.  All questions regarding your registration should be directed to the MRC office. 

University Honors

Students admitted to the University Honors program are required to take Honors Core courses in fall.  University Honors students are still required to complete the New Student Preferences and Housing Form and attend Summer in Seattle.

Core Honors

Students admitted to the Core Honors program are required to take a special section of ENGL 110 in fall quarter.  Other courses will be determined by your answers on the preferences form. 

Cultural and Language Bridge

CLB Students will be placed into CLB classes based on language placement scores.  The Cultural and Language Bridge program is designed to prepare non-native speakers of English for a productive academic career at Seattle University.
