B new yellowBoth degrees share a deep preparation and outlook rooted in the humanities. Correctly conceived, the field of the humanities has its core in verbal skills and philosophical thinking, in the learned wisdoms of past and present, but the humanities are hardly limited to what are usually called the liberal arts. Rather, the humanities embrace the study of all that is human, of all that bears upon people, or that people can do or become. The purpose of humanistic study is to help the student to take a worthy and effective place within the human community. Nothing, therefore, is beyond its interest. Nothing is beyond its concerns.
