Ecumenical and Multifaith
The word “ecumenical” is derived from the Greek word oikoumene, meaning “the whole inhabited world.” In our time, the word ecumenical refers to the movement to unite all those churches who call themselves Christian. Protestants, Catholics, Orthodox Christians and everyone in between are welcome. Working with other faith backgrounds is also a large part of this mission. This particular office has many relationships with the surrounding community and can connect students of various traditions to local places of worship where they can grow spiritually. The Campus Minister for Ecumenical and Multifaith is specifically designated to serve Protestant and non-Christian students' needs and to develop ecumenical and interfaith opportunities. At Seattle University, we pride ourselves in the ways we welcome and honor people of all faith traditions, as well as people who do not come from any particular faith background at all.
